High Intelligence Office

"Education in the true sense is helping the individual to be mature and free, to flower greatly in love and goodness. That is what we should be interested in, and not in shaping the child according to some idealistic pattern."
Dear teacher, don't be an axe that shaped a ROBOT!

Teach 4 operation creatively

It's glad that I could share with you guys on how Waldorf teacher teach 4 operation in the class. Here are few infos that I have no time to share with you in the classroom.
Have a look and hope you learn something new!
Addition counts one,  and one and one and one. Sometimes she needs to go back and try counting it again. She wants to make sure she has it all right and nothing has been missed. She loves to have a big heap of jewels. She is very precise but it can take a long time before she is done counting. Sometimes she takes naps and has a little snack before continuing to count.

Additions’ twin brother, he undoes what she counts. When he is asked to bring jewels to the king, he may drop some along the way or may loose some from his pockets full of holes. He is always concerned about others not having any jewels, so he always remembers to give to those who do not have any. (Melancholic)

Multiplication is very quick and alert. In fact you barely see her go by. She runs this way and that, to not miss a thing. She has X-tra special speed which allows her to count twice as much in half the time as her little sister Additon does. Because of her speed, she can check to see if Addition forgot to include some jewels before she has finished counting. (Sanguine)

Division is Multiplication’s twin brother. He is very fair. When he counts he makes sure everyone has their fair share. He normally leads his brother and sisters, and divides each one to their duty. (Choleric)

Emperor Equal Keeps it Orderly

King Equals is the widest of the Number Gnomes, he takes great care to make sure the entire natural world and the world of numbers work together properly. His gnomes help the root gnomes so they are sure all the flowers have the right number of petals.

King Equal has four special gnomes that help him with all the counting that must be done to keep things moving smoothly. These gnomes have special names.

There is a fiery yellow gnome with beautiful golden hair, her name is Times Multiply, most people call her Times. She is happy and fun and loves to bring happiness to others.

Next to her stands a chubby little green gnome, his name is Plus Addition, folks call him Plus. He's happy too but he's greedy, he loves to try and get as many things as he can, his gnome robes have many pockets.

Next to him stands a sad looking gnome, he is wearing blue robes that need mending. His pocket all have holes and he is often sad, his name is Minus Subtraction, Minus for short.

The last of the helpers is a pretty red gnome named Divided By, she has pretty dark hair and she is a great problem solver often thinking of all the ways she can be helpful.

King Equals loves his gnomes - they work so hard. These counting gnomes help the gnome world stay running by mining and gathering jewels for King Equals each day.

People, maths can be FUN if we teach the kid through this way.
Story telling to enhance understanding and could engage your child.
Try this out! They will love your class so so so much :)

Why Waldorf?

Today I surf through the net to learn more about Waldorf Education.
And I find that I love it's education so much.
This are some of the quotes that I love which is instil among the teachers and the students.

"Help the child to have enthusiasm but not pressure in learning."

"Education is free the children from the paper, not only looking at the flat test score!"
And this concept is quite hard for us (Asian parent who are "kiasu”)

"Movement helps to integrate all the things that the children learn cause thet not only learn with their eyes or ears or hear, but they learn with their WHOLE BODY"

"Accept children with reverence, educate them with love, send them forth in freedom"

"Always look at where the child is at, where they are best learned"

Love and respect is important in Waldorf Education (Humanity)
"When the teacher LOVE the child, the child blosson;
When the child LOVE the teacher, the child can learn from the teacher
This is an ESSENTIAL ingredient in education."

The Quotes that i LOVE the most!

"Education can ill and education can heal!"

If you are educators or a parent, which one are you? Are you making a child to feel ill? Or are you healing him?"

If you would like to know about Waldorf Education, look here...It's interesting!

Jingle bells socks. Easy right?

Teach children how sound is made.
Musical Instrument using Cooking Utensil. Baby learn through making different type of noise.
Besides fingerplay that we are familiar with...what else can I do when I am singing a song?

Song especially classical song are good for kids.Often we heard that the song compose by Mozart is good. There's a saying goes like this "The Mozart Effect: Tapping the Power of Music to Heal the Body, Strengthen the Mind, and Unlock the Creative Spirit" But have you ever wonder WHY?
  • Create enjoyment and engagement
  • Reduce stress, depression, or anxiety
  • Induce relaxation or sleep
  • Activate the body
  • Improve memory or awareness.
  • Innovative and experimental uses of music and sound can improve listening disorders

Activities to enhance sensory motor development

Children especially aged 0-2 is at their sensory motor stage where they learn the best by using their 5 senses. So, what are the activities to help them develop well in their growth? The activities I love the most is sensory play. Perhaps you will know the medium that you can use can be flour, play dough, sand, salt, water, shaving cream, jelly and gel. Yes! You are right! Is that all? NO! There are more. Let’s see…I found some other interesting way.

 Spaghetti Play

Play with spaghetti? Try before?
You may produce a rainbow lunch with your kids.
Have fun learning about colours and art while enhancing their sensory motor

Bubble wrap mat
Next time if you buy Jacob or Julie’s biscuit or any electrical appliances, they do have a bubble wrap inside.
Do not throw away!
Keep it and let your child play with it yeah!
He or she may crawl on it,
stomp on it or smack on it!

 Colour Soap Play
Enhance sense of touch and sense of smell.

Try out different medium including plastic, cloth, roti canai, vege, taufu, etc. and you may carry out sensory steps activity with your kids.
